What we liked about the Duxtop Cooktop

The surface of the cooktop is made up of premium quality glass. It looks beautiful with its sleek black crystal plate design. The glass quality makes it scratch free and easy to clean. There is a ring in the center to help in the alignment and placement of the cookware on the heating zone.

The manufacturer has lovingly displayed touch sensor buttons. There is no protruding display of plastic buttons which requires quite a lot of effort to operate. Operating these touch-sensitive buttons is a buttery affair.

The cord length is quite long (6 ft), giving good room to the consumer to operate from different areas.

Being lightweight and compact, it becomes quite easy to carry and store the induction. To place it away and to take the cooktop out from storage easily as and when needed for cooking

The versatile power and temperature ranges provide a large range of options to choose from during cooking. You can boil, saute, fry, stir fry, steam, grill, etc.

Two hours and fifty minutes timer (170 minutes) are more than sufficient to cook as slow as you want or as fast as you require.

The LED display on the control panel is quite clear. There are comfortable large digital buttons on the panel. The control panel is at a safe distance from the heating zone. This ensures minimal spillage and no untoward accidents.

It is built according to North American electrical standards and is ETL approved.

The cooktop also has inbuilt voltage detector which helps it by warning and then shutting down in case of high or low voltage. This feature is more like a shield protector. It also has a diagnostic error message system.

It has feet below for stability when placed on a surface for cooking. It heats up quite rapidly and responds quickly to changes in temperatures.

Heat remains confined to the cookware and the heating element beneath the cookware. The rest of the area remains cool to touch while cooking.

In certain inductions, the running of fan underneath can be very noisy. With Duxtop 1800 watt portable induction, cooking is a peaceful affair.

What’s Not So Great about Duxtop 1800W Induction Cooktop

Anyone who has read my reviews before would find the following sentence very familiar and know that its an issue close to my heart.

Duxtop induction does not have a child lock. If families are where the inductions market is, then they should take extra care regarding the safety of cooktop and children. Children are by nature attracted to cooking aromas and they especially want to be where the mom is.

A child lock ensures the system is locked and even by accident there is no change in settings.

The temperature range begins from 140F. So if the dish requires the temperature to go up to 100 F, it is not possible in Duxtop 1800 watt portable induction cooktop.

The heating zone is not very large. It is only 8 inches in diameter. If we use bigger cookware, that can touch the control panel. There will not be uniform heating in the cookware base as well.

Duxtop induction cooktop does not have a hot and cool indicator. So you will have to keep using again and again to get an idea of how much time it takes for the cool down process after cooking. Touching and seeing from time to time. This can be irritating. Its also not a good idea to clean the induction right after cooking. This is because the surface is hot and some cleaning agents emit noxious fumes when they come in contact with heat.

As the cooktop is compact and portable, maintaining a distance of 1 foot according to ICNIRP guidelines to avoid EMF emitted by the cooktop can be difficult. Usually, people tend to come close to the cooktop and cook. Being portable, it is very easy to drag it forward and see the contents inside to add stuff or mix.

Objects which get affected by a magnetic field such as credit card, radio, tv should not be placed on or near the induction. Remembering all of this all the time can be taxing.

It is also mentioned in the care guide that people with pacemakers should consult their physicians before using an Induction. According to guidelines found online, they should also maintain a distance of 2 feet from the induction. This is ridiculous. How do they expect anyone to cook from a distance of 2 feet? Even with long arms?

The temperature increments are quite large. They increase by 40. This is a very big gap and if a dish requires a specific temperature, that can be difficult.

Now since induction is a complex electric gadget, repair and maintenance require professional assistance which can be costly.

How Duxtop 1800 Watt Portable Induction Cooktop works?

Duxtop portable induction only works with induction compatible cookware. This means the bottom surface of the cookware must be made of ferrous magnetic material. The suitable materials are Iron, stainless steel, cast Iron, and enameled iron or stainless steel. Non-magnetic stainless steel such as 18/10,18/8 will not work on the induction. Do not use ferromagnetic spoons while cooking on Induction. Wooden spoons work best.

The diameter of the cookware should not be less than 4 inches. The bottom should be smooth and flat for maximum contact with the cooking surface.

Place the unit on a dry, stable and non-metallic surface. Allow four inches of space all around the four sides of the cooktop for proper ventilation.

Place the cookware with the help of the alignment ring, in the center of the heating zone. Plug the power on. Press the on/off button once. A fan will start to run and the LED display will show a default power setting of 5.

The power and temperature mode functions work independently of each other. The power level selected relates to the amount of wattage the cooktop generates. To increase speed, increase the power level. The power levels can be adjusted from level 1 to 10 with the help of + and – buttons.

When a specific temperature mode is required, use the temperature mode. The default temperature setting is 8 ( 390 F). Press the + or – buttons to increase or decrease the temperature setting. There are 10 different temperature settings. Once the cookware has reached the selected temperature, the unit will maintain it.

The automatic timer can be used with the temperature or the power mode. Press the timer button once. A red light will show and the LED display will turn 0. Press the + or – buttons to increase or decrease the timing with 1-minute increments up to 170 minutes. To have big increments press and hold the increase or decrease buttons.

The time can be adjusted at any time during the operation. Once the timer reaches the set time, it will beep and induction will shut down automatically. Keep the lid on the cookware to avoid leakage and spills.

After cooking is completed, press the off button once. A fan will start to run taking some time to cool the unit down.

Always remember to remove the plug from the socket before cleaning. Wiping it down with a mild solution and damp cloth works best. Follow that with a dry wipe. Never use harsh abrasives or immerse in water. Its an electric gadget and must be handled accordingly. Store once it’s clean and dry. To improve lifespan, cover the cooktop when not in use and store away from heat.
